Karin Strobos was given the opportunity to jump in as Octavian in Strauss’ Der Rosenkavalier at the Nationale Opera under the baton of Sir Simon Rattle. She received rave reviews for her successful performance, including the term ‘dream debut’ from national newspapers the NRC and De Volkskrant. From that moment, Karin’s career gained momentum.

Karin was part of the solo ensemble of the Aalto-Musiktheater in Essen, Germany from 2014 to 2019. She performed as Cherubino, Charlotte, Suzuki, Zerlina, Idamante, Dorabella, Rosina, Elvira, Adalgisa, Siébel and Amando. Karin is now a regular guest and frequently returns to perform as Ocatian, Donna Elvira, Hänsel and Siébel.

From 2009 to 2011, Karin was a permanent member of Opera Zuid, where she sang as Octavian, Cherubino, Hänsel, Varvara, Suzuki, Siébel en Boulotte. She returned in May 2015 to sing the lead role in Rossini’s La Cenerentola.

After her part in Der Rosenkavalier, Karin returned to
De Nationale Opera in Amsterdam to play Flora (La Traviata), Phénice (Armide) and Fortuna (The New Prince). In June 2023, she will be performing as kitchen boy in Rusalka.

Karin sang Cherubino, Flora, Rosina and Der Komponist (Ariadne auf Naxos) at the
Nederlandse Reisopera.

She regularly performs as a soloist at different orchestras, including
Radio Filharmonisch Orkest, Residentie Orkest, Nederlands Philharmonisch Orkest, Phion, Noord Nederlands Orkest and philharmonie zuidnederland. In April 2021, Karin returned to the Rotterdams Philharmonisch Orkest as one of the soloists at the live stream of ‘A musical Easter for you’.

Willem Jeths wrote two parts of his ‘Symphony nr. 1’especially for Karin. This led to her debut in the Saturday Matinee Concert, conducted by Edo de Waart in the Concertgebouw of Amsterdam with the
Radio Filharmonisch Orkest. Under the direction of De Waart, Karin made her debut at the Filharmonie van Antwerpen in 2015, in Mahler’s ‘Symphony No. 4’.

Karin enjoys performing chamber music with her set pianists Else Sterk, Ernst Munneke and Thomas Beijer, her trio with Daria van den Bercken and Felicia van den End, with the Berlage Saxophone Quartet, Cello8ctet Amsterdam, Andre Heuvelman and Club Classique. She is also involved in Stichting Appeltaartconcerten, performing for children and adults who are unable to visit a theatre. On October ’22, Karin toured Andalusia, Spain, with the Ricciotti Ensemble.

She received different awards, including the Grachtenfestivalprijs 2011, the Gouden Viooltje and, together with Felicia and Daria, the Debuut Publieksprijs.

Karin studied with Henny Diemer at the
Utrechts Conservatorium, receiving her Master’s degree with distinction in 2009. She was also part of the ensemble of Opera Studio Nederland. She took singing classes from Brigitte Fassbaender, Iris Dell’Acqua, Gemma Visser and Margreet Honig.

Karin taught master classes at the Conservatorium Amsterdam, Utrechts Conservatorium and the ArtEZ Academy of Music in Zwolle.
